This archive is a living repository of Project Art Works’ practice and methodology, and the work of the artists and makers who develop, or have previously developed, their creative practice at our organisation.

As part of Coastal Currents 2026, we are opening access to the digital archive as a work in progress to find out what this digital platform can offer, understand how people might use it, and how to present the material in an accessible way.

• Our complete artwork collection, comprising 7,000+ high-resolution digital images of paintings, sculptures and other forms of artworks.

  All artworks are catalogued and professionally photographed as a record and testament to the quality and value of neurodivergent artists' work. Beyond this platform, many of the physical artworks and archive materials have been featured in major international exhibitions, including at Tate Modern, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Copenhagen Contemporary, Documenta Fifteen, De La Warr Pavilion, Hastings Contemporary, and as part of our Turner Prize 2021 exhibition. Artworks are also loaned through our Art on Loan scheme, licensed for reproduction (including across Premier Inn hotel rooms in Europe), and available for purchase via our Shop.

• Photographs, slides and polaroids which document some of Project Art Works’ early projects and activities (c. 1996–2012).

  While currently incomplete, work is underway to accession, catalogue, and present a wealth of additional material which complements what’s already here. Together, these records reflect not only the story of Project Art Works, but also the broader societal changes in the lives of people with learning disabilities over the last 20+ years, spanning the closure of long-stay hospitals, the introduction of Personal Budgets, and government policy such as Valuing People Now.

Privacy & Data Protection

To protect the privacy of artists, staff, and participants featured in our visual records, photographic documentation of practice is currently accessible only in part. In compliance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018), selected photographic materials have undergone anonymisation and redaction using image blurring to safeguard personal data while ensuring that as much of the collection as possible is accessible to the public.
